Red Rose Teaching School Alliance

Our ITT (Initial Teacher Training) programme

As part of our continous improvement cycle, we offer a bespoke School Direct programme.

With a close knit community of partner schools who are all committed to supporting you in achieving the best possible outcomes throughout your training year, Red Rose Teaching School Alliance works collaboratively with Edge Hill University who support our programme and allow us to offer the masters level credits needed to secure the award of a PGCE. The School Direct programme offers you a wider variety of placement experiences and school based training.

The secondary schools that we are fortunate enough to offer as placement schools, apart from ourselves, for the 2017 -2018 programme include: Penwortham Girls' High School, Balshaw's CE High School, Lostock Hall Academy, Brownedge St Mary's Catholic High School and Byrchall High School.

Recruitment for September 2017 will commence in October 2016.

Application Process

Bishop Rawstorne Church of England Academy and the University provider will receive your application from UCAS after your references have been uploaded.  They will assess your academic qualifications, including degree relevancy and then decide on potential applications.  If you are unsuccessful at this stage, the university will relay this decision via the UCAS Track facility.

Successful applicants will be invited to Bishop Rawstorne for an interview.  The interview will include a subject knowledge presentation, formal interview, classroom visit and a literacy test.

You will either be offered a conditional of unconditional place on the School Direct programme you have applied for.  A conditional place may be based on your successful completion of your degree, if you are still at university, or on the basis of you passing your Skills tests or gaining more experience observing in a secondary school.

 Skills Tests

Applicants for initial teacher training (ITT) are required to have passed the skills tests before the start of the course. Applicants for courses that begin in the academic year 2017/2018 can now book to take the skills tests.

ITT providers will use the skills tests results to inform their decisions so applicants are strongly advised to prepare thoroughly for their tests prior to taking them.
