National Professional Qualifications
We are now offering the new NPQML programme.
Middle leaders hold a unique and critical position within a school. In all schools, middle leaders are highly accountable; they are at 'the chalkface' with regards to teaching and learning and responsible for ensuring the school’s vision, policies and strategies are implemented. Moreover, they are crucial to driving forward successful school improvement.
We are now offering the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership (NPQML). This is a qualification aimed at those in their first years of middle leadership or those hoping to move into a middle leadership position. The programme, using experienced SLEs and Senior Leaders, will tackle issues surrounding leading a team within an organisation. On completion of the NPQML, leaders will leave confident that they are equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to drive a team forward.
WHO IS THE PROGRAMME FOR?
NPQML is for those who are, or are aspiring to become, a middle leader with responsibility for leading a team - such as a key stage leader, a curriculum area leader, a pastoral leader, a subject leader or a special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO).
To achieve the NPQML qualification, individuals will need to successfully:
Complete 6 study modules
Undertake a final assessment
THE Study MODULES
The six NPQML study modules set out what a leader should know and be able to do. Modules focus on improving leadership practice and supporting the development of the critical leadership behaviours of: commitment, collaboration, personal drive, resilience, awareness, integrity and respect - behaviours which exemplify how outstanding leaders should operate.
The six study modules to be completed are:
- Strategy and Improvement
- Teaching and Curriculum Excellence
- Leading with Impact
- Working in Partnership
- Managing Resources and Risk
- Increasing Capability
We know that having the opportunity to learn from experienced practitioners and share experiences with peers is an important part of anyone's learning - that is why we have ensured that our programme offers 6 face-to-face leadership learning days (either full days or as twillights).
Within these sessions, we build in dedicated time to support the preparation for the final assessment. The face-to-face events are also supplemented by workplace learning, reading, reflections and online learning.
In order to gain the qualification, the NPQML final assessment must be completed; this task is designed to allow individuals the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to be an effective middle leader.
Each individual will need to lead an improvement project in their team, lasting at least two terms, and which is aimed at improving pupil progress and attainment, as welll as the capability of their team.
