IDEA 1:

Triple Impact Marking.

BRIEF EXPLANATION:

Students self-asses, using detailed success criteria and their green pen, a piece of work or an assessment. They then have they have to identify what they have done well and set themselves clear targets for progression (WWW/EBI). Teacher then marks this looking at what they have set themselves and whether they agree; they should also set other targets, where applicable. Students re-draft acting on targets set by both themselves and teacher.

IDEA 2:

Speed Dating.

BRIEF EXPLANATION:

Speed dating - students sit and face each other in rows and do the traditional speed dating thing with 2 minutes to talk to each other. They are given a particular point relevant to the lesson to argue e.g. One side is for capital punishment the other side is against. They then speed date and rate their partners on the quality of their persuasive arguments.

RESOURCES:

None just prior learning and a row of chairs.

TARGET STUDENTS:

KS3 and/or KS4.

IDEA 3:

Punctuation relay.

BRIEF EXPLANATION:

Team task - sentences, without punctuation, are provided on a sheet for each team. Team members take turns retrieving a punctuation mark from their pile.

Only the person who picks up the punctuation mark can place it; other team member must coach them as to where it should go.

RESOURCES:

Paper and bits of card for punctuation marks.

TARGET STUDENTS:

KS3 and/or KS4.

IDEA 4:

Pass the string.

BRIEF EXPLANATION:

Each table has a ball of string. Every time a student contributes to the discussion, they pass the ball of string on, but keep hold of the string.

At the end of the discussion, you are able to see which students have made the most contributions.

Enough balls of string for every table.
